UC police was illegally sharing your license plate data. Now they're trying to block the records.

Through California Public Records Act requests, we discovered University of California police departments sharing automated license plate reader data with hundreds of agencies across 39 states — including immigration enforcement partners. Audit logs that would reveal how often and what these agencies like Border Patrol were searching up are being withheld. As a result, Director Daniel Negrete-Gonzalez filed suit in the Riverside Superior Court. Read the complaint on the right, or check out our visualization tools!
